What We Handle In-House

  • Spay and neuter — for both dogs and cats, usually the first surgical procedure most pets ever have
  • Mass and tumor removal — including biopsies when we need to know more before deciding next steps
  • Foreign body removal — for the socks, toys, and things that shouldn’t have been swallowed
  • Laceration and wound repair
  • Dental extractions, when a cleaning turns up teeth that can’t be saved

For anything more involved — orthopedic repairs, complex internal surgery, or a case that needs specialty equipment — we’ll refer you to a surgical specialist and stay in the loop on your pet’s recovery afterward.

Before and After

We’ll walk you through pre-op instructions specific to your pet — usually fasting overnight and confirming any medications — and go over what recovery looks like once you’re getting them settled back at home. Every procedure includes pain management and monitoring during recovery from anesthesia, and we’ll send you home with clear instructions rather than assuming you already know what a cone-and-quiet-week routine involves.

Frequently asked questions

Answers from your Kendall veterinary team.

What age should I get my pet spayed or neutered?

It depends on breed and size more than a fixed number — smaller dogs and cats are often ready earlier, while some larger breeds do better waiting a bit longer for growth plates to close. We'll give you a specific recommendation for your pet rather than a blanket age, since a generic answer isn't always the right one.

Will my pet be in pain after surgery?

Some discomfort is normal for the first day or two, and we send every surgical patient home with pain management to keep that manageable. What's not normal is a pet that seems to be in significant distress, won't eat at all, or seems worse a day or two out instead of better — call us if that's what you're seeing.

How long does recovery usually take?

A routine spay or neuter is typically 10–14 days of restricted activity — no running, jumping, or rough play — while the incision heals. More involved procedures can take longer, and we'll give you a timeline specific to what was actually done during your pet's follow-up.

Do you handle emergency surgery?

We handle soft-tissue and routine surgical procedures during our regular hours. For a true emergency outside our hours, or a case needing immediate surgical intervention we're not equipped for, we'll get you pointed to a facility that can help right away rather than delaying.

What if my pet needs a type of surgery you don't perform?

We'll say so directly and refer you to a veterinary surgeon who specializes in that procedure. We'd rather send you somewhere better equipped for a complex case than take on something outside what we can do safely in-house.
